Born in Detroit and raised in Germany, do these places reflect in your work?

Both Detroit and Germany are quite industrial places, focused on functionality and engineering - from the car industry to music, and beyond.

[...] Having been born in Detroit and raised in Germany, an exacting, disciplined practice of expression is not just a learned habit - it is the logical result.

Where do you draw inspiration from? Any cities that inspire you?

I spend lots of time with literature and images from the past.

Seoul is a vessel of ambition and positivity to me currently. Something that always stands out to me about Seoul is the uplifting spirit my peers bring to their table. Not only their work ethic but their willingness to share it with others.

Can collections be both unique AND have commercial appeal?

I don’t consider commercial success too much in my work. I am focused on a steady and honest output, which can go against the flow of the market at times, but can create a demand of its own at other times.

That said, is it fair to say that you create, to create, and through that integrity, demand arises?

Exactly. I avoid responding to the market’s demands but trust my gut.

Name one staple item, apparel, or accessory, in your closet right now

I wear my CCP vestbag on a fairly consistent basis, out of sheer practicality and durability.

Closing with a big scope question, do you believe the industry has evolved? And if so, where do you see opportunities?

There has been a subtle push towards craftsmanship and quality over visual impact and logos, which I hope expands more over the years to come.

[With this evolution] I often have to remind myself to strive for subtle quality, rather than sensationalism.
