Where did your career in fashion begin?

One of my first internships was NYLON magazine and I always loved being able to build a story through photos and words. I was initially drawn to the access to so much clothing and that’s evolved to being able to explore different sides of myself through personal style.

Any particular experiences or people that helped shape your career in a meaningful way?

I would say my boss when I was an intern shaped my career and opened a lot of doors for me within the industry. She recognized how hard I was working and became a mentor for me. I also learned a lot from her about how to be a nice and humble person through this industry. NYLON was one of my first internships and we observed a lot of drama and changes and she was a great role model for how to operate in an environment with integrity. Seeing that has defined how I move through my work and offices as well.

Since Nylon, your career has pulled you in many directions.  What projects are you currently working on?

I have a show where I give tech bros fashion makeovers and I’m working on developing the second season.

That sounds fascinating. How did that come about?  Where can we see it?

I’ve dated a lot of tech bros and they’ve always had questionable style, but a desire to flex that creative muscle, so I wanted to create a show that helps them figure out how they want to dress. It’s been an eye-opening experience for me and digs up a lot of questions about who guys dress for and who they’re influenced by. It’s on my IG Reels and the account @dress.codeshow

On the topic of influence, what cultural trends have the most impact on fashion?

Pop culture, celebrities, and previous trends. I think that it’s symbiotic though, whatever influences fashion, fashion also influences. There’s so much awareness of the relationship now that all of these influences are considered.

From your differing vantage points in the industry, what are some opportunities(or challenges) you've discovered over time?

I think the opportunities are to continue pushing your own personal style, having a nuanced approach to understanding discourses on the internet, and always asking questions. The challenges are that not everyone has this point of view and sometimes the loudest in the room is the most successful still. But the difference from when I started is that now I think it’s a little bit easier to carve out your own little corner on the internet and that’s enough for me.

Any emerging or upcoming designers you're keeping an eye on?

I really love Edward Cuming, Nicklas Skovgaard, Paolina Russo, and Yuhan Wang.
